Restoration
The restoration of the fantastic wall paintings found in Akrotiri
Late professor Spyidon Marinatos, was the director of the excavation, since its beginning, in 1967. After his dead in 1974, professor Christos Doumas became the director of the site.
Work is continuously held at the site, and new wall paintings are emerging. Most of them are in a very good condition.
The wall paintings are kept and restored at their location, which makes for a total reconstruction possible, and for conclusions to be drawn directly from the Akrotiri site.
The Thera Foundation and the Idryma Theras have contributed immensely to aid the work done and to keep the excavations going.
