Xeste 4
This three-storey building was in all probability a public edifice, judging from its unusually large dimensions, its impressive exterior - all the walls are revetted with rectangular ashlar blocks - and its rich mural decoration. Excavation is still in the preliminary stages and it is not possible to derive any conclusions on the building's interior arrangement and the moveable finds.
Unfortunately, inadequate documentation of the finds from the 1974 excavation season prevents us from forming an accurate picture of the exact provenance of the wall-paintings and, even more so, the few fragments mended so far seem to belong to a composition which adorned the walls on either side of a staircase, depicting virtually life-size male figures ascending the steps in procession. Almost certainly resumption of work in Xeste 4 will reveal further fragments, which will help complete the composition and thus aid its better understanding.
