A BRITISH holidaymaker has been killed at a Greek tourist spot.

Richard Bennion was visiting a prehistoric site at Akrotiri on the island of Santorini on Friday when a steel canopy crashed down on him.

Six other tourists were pulled from the wreckage - two of them seriously hurt - but Mr Bennion's body was not recovered until yesterday.

Mr Bennion, 45, from Wrexham, North Wales, was on a tour of archaeological sites in the Greek islands with his wife. Akrotiri is a popular stop where tourists can see an ancient town dating back 3,700 years.

Archaeological work there has been suspended while police investigate.

But the Foreign office said: "It seems to have been a tragic accident."
